 Нью-Йорк Таймс, ссылаясь на свои источники в Конгрессе, сообщила, что в пятницу, во время шестичасовых закрытых слушаний в комитете по разведке Палаты Представителей, после серии прямых и очень острых вопросов заместителя председателя комитета конгрессмена Адама Шиффа, советник предвыборного штаба Трампа Картер Пейдж признал, что во время своей поездки в Москву в июле 2016 года встречался там «с представителями российского правительства, парламентариями и бизнесменами».

Также Картер Пейдж заявил, что по возвращении написал отчет, который электронным письмом послал на адрес одного из старших советников предвыборного штаба Трампа. Это электронное письмо было зачитано на слушаниях, и Пейдж признал его авторство. Ранее Пейдж утверждал, что ездил в Москву исключительно по приглашению одного из университетов, чтобы выступить там на выпускной церемонии, ни с кем не встречался и сразу после выступления улетел домой.

Пейдж также признал, что в начале сентября 2016 года был 4 дня в Будапеште, хотя продолжает отрицать, что встречался там с кем-то, уверяя, что осматривал достопримечательности, воспользовавшись удлиненным викендом в связи с праздником в США. Данные факты коррелируют с фактами, изложенными в досье Кристофера Стилла, где говорится о том, что в июле 2016 года Пейдж провел в Москве встречи с Сечиным и Дивейкиным, сотрудниками администрации Путина.
