Раптове рішення основного кандидата партії влади знятися з перегонів послідувало за появою в мережі відео інтимного характеру, нібито за участі Гріво.

"Більше року моя сім'я і я піддавалися наклепницьким заявам, брехні, чуткам, анонімним нападкам, викриттю таємних приватних розмов і погрозам розправи. Цей потік бруду подіяв на мене, але особливо боляче тим, кого я люблю. Якби цього було недостатньо, вчора був пройдений новий етап. Сайт і соціальні мережі ретранслювали огидні атаки, що зачіпають моє приватне життя", - сказав Гріво.

"Я не готовий піддавати себе подальшому ризику, це зайшло занадто далеко. Ось чому я вирішив зняти свою кандидатуру на муніципальних виборах в Парижі",- додав він, зазначивши, що у цього рішення висока ціна, але він вирішив віддати пріоритет родині.
Партія Макрона LREM вибрала колишнього представника уряду Бенжамена Гріво як свого кандидата в кампанії мера Парижа замість Седріка Вільяні, ексцентричного математика.

Залишається незрозумілим, чи буде партія Макрона тепер об'єднуватися навколо Вільяні, бунтівного законодавця, який був вигнаний з LREM минулого місяця, або висуне іншого кандидата.
