Американский сенатор от Республиканской партии Рэнд Пол собирается баллотироваться в президенты США в 2016 году, сообщает Associated Press во вторник, 7 апреля

«Я выдвигаю свою кандидатуру на пост президента, чтобы вернуть нашу страну к принципам свободы и ограничить полномочия правительства», — заявил Рэнд Пол.

Рэнд Пол известен как либертарианец и участник «Движения чаепития». Политик стал сенатором от штата Кентукки в августе 2011 года. Рэнд Пол приходится сыном члену Палаты представителей США Рону Полу,передает Сноб 

Отец Рэнда Пола участвовал в президентских выборах 1988 года как кандидат Либертарианской партии, он занял третье место. Позднее Рон Пол пытался выдвигаться от Республиканской партии, однако проигрывал партийные праймериз.

От Республиканской партии на выборах 2016 года, как предполагается, могут участвовать бывший губернатор Флориды Джеб Буш, губернатор Нью-Джерси Крис Кристи, губернатор Висконсина Скотт Уокер и сенаторы Марко Рубио и Тед Круз.

Самым вероятным кандидатом от Демократической партии на выборах считается бывший глава Госдепартамента США Хиллари Клинтон, которая покинула этот пост в 2013 году. В 2008 году Клинтон пыталась выдвинуться от демократов, но проиграла праймериз Бараку Обаме.
