Американські сенатори затвердили законодавчий акт, згідно з яким колишньому генералу Джеймсу Меттісу дається можливість стати главою Пентагону, незважаючи на те, що існує норма не займати військових посад протягом семи років перед номінацією на посаду глави оборонного відомства США.

За це рішення проголосував 81 сенатор, проти висловилися 17, передає Укрінформ.

Документ також повинен бути проголосований у Палаті представників США.

Раніше Джеймс Мэттис вважає, що США повинні бути готові до протистояння з Росією в тих областях, де обидві країни не можуть співпрацювати.

6 грудня Трамп офіційно запропонував кандидатуру відставного генерала Корпусу морської піхоти Джеймса Мэттиса на пост глави Пентагону. Зокрема, обраний президент назвавМэттиса одним із найбільш ефективних американських воєначальників.
