Утверждается, что молодая женщина была застрелена в Киеве.

О смерти Маргариты Валенко, внештатного сотрудника киевского отделения агентства «Россия сегодня», сообщают «Московский комсомолец», телеканал «Звезда», «Комсомольская правда», «Правда.ру», агентство REGNUM и еще ряд изданий, сообщает Эхо Москва.

При этом они ссылаются на запись в Facebook общественного деятеля по имени Юрий Кот, который известен тем, что был ведущим Антимайдана и не скрывал своей неприязни к событиям, развернувшимся в Киеве в конце 2013 года – начале 2014 года. По словам журналиста, Маргарита Валенко 4 года работала в «одном из городских интернет СМИ Киева» (название не уточняется) и уволилась в «январе 2014 года из-за политических разногласий по ситуации в стране». «Со слов родственников погибшей стало известно, что последние 4 месяца ей поступали часто угрозы от радикалов и других лиц. У Маргариты Валенко осталось двое детей, ей было всего 26 лет. Жизнь молодой журналистки остановили 3 пули киллера», – написал Кот. Его слова были растиражированы в российских СМИ. Позднее на сайте киевского ГУВД появилось заявление, что «сведений о гибели журналистов, в том числе женщин, зарегистрировано в правоохранительных органах не было». В сети так же не удалось найти ни одного более раннего упоминания о Маргарите Валенко.

Государственное агентство «Россия сегодня», с которым якобы сотрудничала предположительно убитая журналистка, никаких комментариев по этому поводу пока не давало.
