Він пояснив, що однією з причиною був захист бюджету. Російський генерал-полковник Леонід Івашов в ефірі пропагандистської телепередачі "Вечер с Владимиром Соловьевым", заявив що РФ вступила у війну в Сирії для захисту своїх газових інтересів.

"Якби Росія не ввійшла туди (у війну з Сирією, - ред.) і не утримала режим Башара Асада, то уже б сьогодні стояло би дуже гостро питання виживання російського бюджету. Тому що воюють там три газові труби: Катар, Іран..." Коли один із учасників ток-шоу уточнив, чи воює РФ в Сирії, щоб забезпечити збут "Газпрому", Івашов відповів ствердно: "Так, в тому числі".
