Після відставки Ліз Трасс офіційно про намір балотуватися оголосили лідер палати громад Пенні Мордонт і колишній міністр фінансів Ріші Сунак. Згідно з правилами партії, кожен кандидат мав отримати не менше 100 голосів на свою підтримку до обіду понеділка, щоб залишитися у перегонах.

 

Пенні Мордаунт не змогла заручитися підтримкою 100 прихильників і більше не претендує на крісло прем'єра. Це проклало шлях для Ріші Сунака, який став єдиним кандидатом. Журналісти зауважують, що у нього тепер є шанс забрати ключі від Даунінг-стріт вже сьогодні.
