Причина протеста состоит в том, что правительство столицы уже девять лет не исполняет им же утвержденное постановление о сносе аварийных домов и расселении жителей квартала.
Ранее жильцы тщетно пытались достучаться до властей с помощью митингов, один из которых, по словам муниципального депутат района Константина Янкаускаса, собрал около 600 человек — а это 30% всех жильцов ветхих домов. Властям, включая мэра Сергея Собянина, направили больше 30 обращений, но реакции так и не последовало.
Пятиэтажек этой серии, которую давно признали неудачной, в Москве построили немного — на юго-западе и в Мневниках, а сносить их начали еще при Юрии Лужкове.
