Президент Італії Серджіо Маттарелла був переобраний на другий термін, повідомляє Reuters

 80-річний Маттарелла набрав 759 голосів депутатів парламенту (необхідно щонайменше 505) – на 94 голоси більше, ніж на його перших виборах у 2015 році. Це другий за величиною результат для будь-якого глави італійської держави після Сандро Пертіні, президента з 1978 до 1985 року.

Партійні лідери подякували Маттареллі за згоду залишитися на посаді.

Reuters пише, що прем'єр-міністр Маріо Драгі, який ясно дав зрозуміти, що сам сподівається стати президентом, натомість залишиться прем'єр-міністром. Драгі заявив, що переобрання Маттарелли стало "прекрасною новиною для італійців", подякувавши за "рішення погодитися з надзвичайно сильною волею парламенту".

У коротких коментарях Маттарелла сказав, що криза з коронавірусом і складні економічні та соціальні умови в Італії означають, що він зобов'язаний прийняти рішення парламенту.  Він сказав, що, хоч мав інші особисті плани, "прагнув відповідати очікуванням і надіям людей".
