Президент України призначив нового посла в Канаді. Ним став відомий тележурналіст, політик та громадський діяч Андрій Шевченко.

Під час зустрічі з новопризначеним послом Президент наголосив на стратегічній важливості завдань посла в країні, в якій, за висловом Президента, «український фактор відіграє найбільшу роль за межами нашої держави».

Президент побажав пану Шевченку зробити все для зміцнення та розвитку українсько-канадських відносин: «Впевнений, що твій молодий ентузіазм, політичний досвід і бажання працювати створять потужний базис для подальшого ефективного зростання наших відносин». Глава держави наголосив на тому, що сьогоднішні відносини України та Канади перебувають на дуже високому рівні взаємної довіри та підтримки.

Президент також нагадав, що Канада була однією з перших країн, яка в умовах агресії Росії «блискавично» надала Україні військово-технічну допомогу, і є одним з найпотужніших адвокатів та надійним партнером України в світі.

Андрій Шевченко подякував за довіру та запевнив Президента в повному розумінні відповідальності своєї нової місії. Він також окреслив головні пріоритети в своїй роботі: політична підтримка, яка гарантуватиме, що Канада й надалі залишатиметься лідером у міжнародній коаліції на захист України, військово-технічна співпраця та зона вільної торгівлі, яка вимагає наповнення реальними інвестиційними проектами.

Андрій Шевченко — відомий політик, журналіст та громадський діяч. Народний депутат Верховної Ради 5-го, 6-го та 7-го скликань. Активний учасник Революції Гідності. Один із засновників «5 каналу». Володар премій «Телетріумф» та Press Freedom Award («Репортери без кордонів»).
