Президент Болгарії Румен Радев наполягає, що перша слов’янська абетка з’явилася саме у Болгарії, а не у Македонії
 

В такий спосіб президент Болгарії прокоментував слова президента Росії Володимира Путіна про те, що "слов'янська абетка (кирилиця, – ред.) прийшла з македонських земель", передає "Укрінформ".

"Було світле свято для всіх народів (24 травня – День слов'янської писемності), які користуються абеткою кирилиця. Якщо ми хочемо, щоб слов'янські народи об'єдналися, то це стане можливим лише за умови шанобливого ставлення до історії. А історія чітко вказує, що Болгарія – батьківщина слов'янської цивілізації і культури", - заявив президент Болгарії.

Радев зауважив при цьому, що "використання історії як розмінної монети у політиці не завжди приводить до бажаного результату".

Неоднозначну, на думку болгарської сторони, заяву Путін зробив під час зустрічі з президентом Македонії Георгієм Івановим.
