Колишній «троль» стверджує, що в 2014 році кампанія прем'єр-міністр Нарендри Моді використовувала волонтерів для поширення критичних коментарів та повідомлень в соцмережах щодо публічних осіб, опозиційно налаштованих до BJP. Кампанія в соцмережах часто перетікала в тролінг релігійних переконань або сексуальне переслідування в інтернеті, особливо щодо жінок-опоненток, розповіла Садаві Косла (Sadhavi Khosla), колишня волонтерка BJP, пише Media Sapiens

У список цілей для тролінгу входили політичні противники, такі як віце-президент партії Індійський національний конгрес Рахул Ганді (Rahul Gandhi). До списку також потрапив актор Аамір Хан (Aamir Khan). За словами волонтерки, окремий відділ, який відповідав за соціальні медіа, давав вказівки їй та сотням інших волонтерів як діяти.

BJP ситуацію не прокоментувала. Однак колишній глава підрозділу, який займався соціальними медіа партії, Арвінд Гупта (Arvind Gupta), сказав Indian Express, що звинувачення Садави Косли необгрунтовані і що вона була прихильницею опозиційної партії Індійський національний конгрес. Він також зазначив, що BJP опублікувала рекомендації щодо роботи в соцмережах на своєму веб-сайті та «ніколи не заохочувала тролінг».
