Католицький суспільно-релігійний сайт CREDO спростував інформацію, поширену в ЗМІ, про те, що Папа Франциск вручив Путіну медаль. Про це йдеться у публікації на сайті CREDO.

"Обмін традиційними сувенірними подарунками між Папою Франциском і президентом Росії Володимиром Путіним викликав хвилю обурення в українському сегменті інтернету. Медальйон Ангела миру - традиційний подарунок Святішого Отця главам держав - багато хто назвав медаллю. Новину про це поширили українські інтернет-сайти і не тільки. Варто зазначити, що медальйон - це сувенір, подарунок на згадку. А медаль - це нагорода. Папа подарував Путіну не медаль (італійською - medaglia), а медальйон (medaglione)", - зазначає видання.

CREDO нагадує: такий самий медальйон свого часу Папа дарував президенту Палестини Махмуду Аббасу, закликаючи його до миру. Медальйон “Ангел миру” має також символічне значення для України сьогодні.

Разом з тим Понтифік закликав Путіна не зволікати й докласти "щирих та максимальних зусиль для досягнення миру в Україні".

"Зустріч з президентом Путіним доводить, що Папа Франциск продовжує застосовувати свої дипломатичні впливи для зміни політичних курсів та зміцнення відносин між державами, як це сталося у випадку відновлення дипломатичних контактів між Кубою та США після більш ніж 50-річної перерви", - пише видання.

Нагадаємо, що вчора відбулася зустріч Папи Франциска і президента РФ Путіна. Зустріч лідерів двох держав тривала близько 50 хвилин. Сторони погодилися: кроки для "відновлення клімату діалогу та встановлення тривалого миру в Україні" вкрай необхідні. В основі цього процесу має бути закінчення збройного протистояння між українською армією та проросійськими сепаратистами, йдеться в офіційній заяві Ватикану.
