Редакция Оксфордского словаря ежегодно выбирает слово, имевшее наибольшее значение в уходящем году. В 2015 году, впервые в истории, было выбрано не слово, а пиктограмма эмодзи.

Пиктограмма, официальное название которой "Лицо со слезами радости", была выбрана редакторами по причине того, что она наилучшим образом отражает настроение людей в 2015 году. По статистике данный эмодзи в 2015 году использовался в три раза чаще, чем в 2014-м. Пиктограммой "Лицо со слезами радости" пользуются в Великобритании в 20% случаев и 17% – в США.

Среди других популярных слов в 2015 году отмечены: ad blocker, Dark Web, on fleek, lumbersexual, sharing economy.
