Издание The New York Times (NYT) запустило мобильное приложение NYT VR, которое позволит рассматривать круговые панорамы или погружаться в виртуальную реальность событий, отснятых редакцией. Об этом сообщается на сайте издания, передает Лента.ру
NYT пока единственное крупное СМИ, запустившее приложение виртуальной реальности. Первым материалом стали фотографии детей, потерявших дом из-за войны, — 11-летнего Олега из восточной Украины, 12-летней сирийской девочки Ханы и девятилетнего Чула из Южного Судана. В комплекте с приложением идет видео виртуальной реальности Walking New York о создании обложек журнала Times.
NYT VR доступно для iOS- и Android-устройств. Можно просматривать круговые панорамы на дисплее смартфона, но NYT рекомендует полноценный доступ в виртуальную реальность с помощью шлема Google Cardboard VR. Подписчикам воскресного издания устройство будет доставлено бесплатно 8 ноября во время выхода очередного выпуска.
Выпуск сервисов виртуальной реальности стал трендом в 2015 году. В феврале Google запустил отдельный раздел на YouTube для панорамного видео, которое можно рассматривать в шлемах виртуальной реальности. Facebook начал поддержку такого формата в сентябре. Компания Samsung анонсировала свой шлем виртуальной реальности в 2014 году, а в начале 2016-го начнутся продажи очков дополненной реальности Microsoft Hololens.
