Новим главою німецької партії Християнсько-демократичний союз (ХДС), яку очолює канцлер Ангела Меркель, може стати колишній голова парламентської фракції ХДС Фрідріх Мерц.

Посилаючись на власні поінформовані джерела, видання зазначає, що Мерц має намір висунути свою кандидатуру на пост голови партії.
Мерц уже брав участь у виборах нового керівника партії рік тому - після того, як Меркель оголосила про рішення скласти свої повноваження. Тоді він програв Аннегрет Крамп-Карренбауер.
Як відомо, Крамп-Карренбауер заявила в понеділок, 10 лютого, що не буде претендувати на посаду канцлера під час наступних парламентських виборів у 2021 році, та піде з посади голови партії Християнсько-демократичний союз.
Мерц раніше гостро критикував соціальну політику Меркель та виступав за співфінансування освітніх послуг, зокрема починаючи від дитячих садків, та підвищення пенсійного віку.
