Опозиційний кандидат Гергей Карачонь набрав майже 51% голосів на виборах мера Будапешта.

Колишній політолог Карачонь, якого підтримало широке коли опозиційних партії, вже назвав перемогу "історичною".

Іштван Тарлон, чинний мер та представник партії "Фідес - Угорський громадянський союз", яку очолює чинний прем’єр-міністр Угорщини Віктор Орбан, набрав 45%.

Це перший виборчий удар для Орбана після його приходу до влади у 2010 році.

"Фідес" під час виборчої кампанії постійно атакувала Карачоня за нібито про-міграційну позицію та його "непридатність" до роботи, тоді як Орбан погрожував відмовитись від співпраці з муніципалітетами, вибори до яких його партія програла.
