За результатами виборів президентом Республіки Куба став Мігель Діас-Канель.

"Національна асамблея народної влади (АНПП) обрала цього четверга, 10 жовтня, президентом Республіки Куба Мігеля Маріо Діаса-Канеля Бермудеса, який обійматиме посаду президента країни до 2023 року", - йдеться у публікації.

На позачерговій сесії, законодавці проголосували за 59-річного Мігеля Діаса-Канеля, який раніше очолював Раду міністрів республіки, та був одним з 17 кандидатів на посаду.

Нововибраний лідер має три місяці для призначення прем'єр-міністра на посаду глави уряду, а також губернаторів для 15 провінцій країни.

Крім цього, віце-президентом республіки був призначений Сальвадор Вальдес.

Посада президента була введена за результатами референдуму, проведеного на Кубі в лютому 2019 року.

У квітні 2019 року також була введена нова Конституція, яка передбачає поступову зміну структури влади держави.
