Як оголосило міністерство фінансів у четвер, героїню ще не обрано. Але швидше за все, обрана жінка уособлюватиме символ демократії та з'явиться на банкноті номіналом 10 доларів. Вона замінить Олександра Гамільтона та надійде в обіг у 2020-ому році, повідомляє Українська правда.
Раніше жінки також з'являлися на американських доларах, але всього двічі. Так, на купюрі, номіналом 1$ було розміщене зображення дружини президента Джорджа Вашингтона - Марти Вашингтон у 1880х-1890-х роках. А у 1860-х на банкнотах було зображено Покахонтас, жінку, пов'язану із колоніальним поселенням у Джеймстауні.
За словами міністра фінансів Джейкоба Лью, обирати наступну героїню доларової банкноти буде казначейство, спираючись на громадську думку. Подія буде приурочена до 100-річчя прийняття 19-ої поправки до Конституції США, коли жінки отримали право голосу.
