Ексміністр у справах сім'ї Франциска Гіффай стала новою бургомістеркою німецької столиці та водночас очолила уряд цієї федеральної землі.

У вівторок, 21 грудня, її кандидатуру підтримали 84 із 139 депутатів земельного парламенту, 52 голосували проти, двоє утрималися.

Після свого обрання та приведення до присяги Гіффай, перша жінка на посаді, приступила до виконання обов'язків і вже призначила десять сенаторів - членів уряду федеральної землі Берлін. 

Тепер до складу уряду Берліна, окрім чотирьох чоловіків, увійшли сім жінок - більше, ніж будь-коли до цього.

З 2016 року в Берліні править коаліція у складі соціал-демократів, до яких належить Франциска Гіффай, "Зелених" та Лівої партії. Попередник Гіффай на посаді бургомістра, її однопартієць Міхаель Мюллер, тепер обраний депутатом Бундестагу. 

Гіффай - вже третя поспіль представниця соціал-демократів на чолі уряду Берліна.

Гіффай, яку колись вважали претендентом на те, щоб очолити СДПН на національному рівні, пішла з поста міністра в травні після скандалу, пов'язаного з плагіатом у її докторській дисертації.
