ABC News входит в объединенную группу из пяти основных вещательных и кабельных новостных сетей, а также крупных телеграфных, печатных и радиоорганизаций, которые написали открытое письмо с просьбой к кандидатам в президенты публично взять на себя обязательство принять участие в телевизионных дебатах в преддверии всеобщих выборов, говорится в сообщении.

Помимо ABC News, письмо подписали CBS News, CNN, NBCUniversal News Group и FOX News Media, а также The Associated Press, C-SPAN, NewsNation, Noticias Univision (Univision Network News), NPR, PBS NewsHour и США TODAY.

«Теперь, когда контуры всеобщих выборов 2024 года становятся очевидными, мы, нижеподписавшиеся национальные новостные организации, призываем предполагаемых кандидатов в президенты публично взять на себя обязательство участвовать во всеобщих предвыборных дебатах до ноябрьских выборов», — говорится в письме, опубликованном в воскресенье.

Этот необычный шаг был сделан на фоне избирательного цикла, в течение которого практика дебатов, многолетняя американская предвыборная традиция, была встречена с неуверенностью как президентом Джо Байденом, так и бывшим президентом Дональдом Трампом, отмечается в публикации.
