Независимый кандидат на высший государственный пост Исландии историк Гудни Йоханнессон заявил о своей победе на прошедших в стране президентских выборах. На момент выступления были подсчитаны еще не все бюллетени, но Йоханнессон уже набирал 38,6% голосов избирателей. Второй результат показала предпринимательница Халла Тоумасдоттир – 29,4%.

Президентские выборы на острове проводятся в один тур. Для победы кандидату достаточно набрать простое большинство голосов, преодолевать барьер в 50% не обязательно.
