Google, Facebook, Twitter і Microsoft зобов'язалися "розглядати більшість" порушень протягом цього терміну і за необхідності видаляти такі матеріали.

Крім того, інтернет-компанії будуть займатися створенням "контр-наративу", який допоміг би впоратися з цією проблемою.

Кількість екстремістських публікацій в мережі різко збільшилася в останні роки, і оскільки ця сфера законодавчо не регулювалася, то бізнес став розробляти власні рішення. Нові правила є спробою кодифікувати ці напрацювання в рамках ЄС.

Зокрема, за даними Європолу, Twitter менш ніж за рік заблокував 125 тисяч облікових записів за підозрою в пропаганді тероризму.

Рішення розробити єдині правила було прийнято після терактів в Брюсселі за ініціативою єврокомісара з питань юстиції Віри Йоуровой. На її думку, "соціальні мережі, на жаль, є одним з інструментів, які терористичні угруповання використовують, щоб перетворювати молодь в радикалів, поширювати насильство і сіяти ненависть".
