Бывший президент Франции Николя Саркози предстанет перед судом по делу о незаконном финансировании своей предвыборной кампании 2012 года.

Как сообщает AFP, высший уголовный апелляционный суд Франции отклонил апелляцию Саркози, открыв путь для назначения даты судебного разбирательства.

Саркози обвиняют в том, что он почти вдвое превысил установленный в размере 22,5 млн евро лимит на свою кампанию по переизбранию в 2012 году.

Прокуроры считают, что 64-летний Саркози потратил почти 43 млн евро на избирательную кампанию, чтобы остаться на второй срок. В конце концов он проиграл выборы Франсуа Олланду, кандидату от Социалистической партии.

Саркози отрицает обвинения, заявляя, что не знал о мошенничестве.

Бывшему президенту Франции грозит год лишения свободы и штраф в размере 3750 евро в случае признания его виновным.

В 2018 году Николя Саркози предъявили обвинения в коррупции и незаконном финансировании избирательной кампании в 2007 году, в том числе из средств покойного ливийского диктатора Муаммара Каддафи.
