Колишній глава МЗС Британії Борис Джонсон розпочав кампанію у боротьбі за пост лідера Консервативної партії, який стане наступним прем’єром Сполученого Королівства.

Про це повідомляє "Європейська правда" з посиланням на агентство Reuters.

Джонсон пообіцяв вивести країну з ЄС 31 жовтня, заявивши, що відтермінування означатиме для країни "поразку".

"Після трьох років і двох пропущених дедлайнів ми повинні покинути ЄС 31 жовтня", - сказав Джонсон, додавши, що прагне виходу з блоку без відповідної угоди.

"Я не думаю, що ми зіткнемося з чимось подібним, але відповідальним було б енергійно і серйозно підготуватися до виходу без угоди. Справді дивно, що хтось може запропонувати відмовитися від цього життєво важливого інструменту в переговорах", - додав він.

Нагадаємо, на посаду лідера Консервативної партії Британії і відповідно на пост прем’єра офіційно претендують 10 політиків. Джонсон має чи не найбільшу підтримку серед членів своєї партії. 

Тереза Мей офіційно пішла з посади лідера Консервативної партії минулого тижня, але залишиться прем'єр-міністром до тих пір, поки не буде обраний її наступник.

Партія розраховує обрати нового лідера наприкінці липня.
