У 2017 році щонайменше 42 журналісти загинули під час виконання своїх професійних обов'язків.

Про це йдеться у звіті  Комітету захисту журналістів (CPJ), пише Українська правда

За даними журналістської правозахисної організації, найбільше журналістів загинуло в Іраку (щонайменше 8), Сирії (7) та Мексиці (6).

Уперше за 6 років Сирія не посіла перше місце у списку.

Повідомляється, що серед загиблих журналістів - 8 жінок.

Як відомо, раніше CPJ заявив, що на кінець 2017 року рекордна кількість журналістів - 262 - перебуває в ув'язненні в багатьох країнах світу.

Найбільше журналістів тримають за гратами у Туреччині (73), Китаї (41) та Єгипті (20).
