Американский телеканал CNN получил универсальную лицензию на вещание на территории России. Разрешение выдано 23 марта, оно действует в течение 10 лет. Факт получения лицензии газете «Известия» подтвердили как представители CNN, так и в Роскомнадзоре.

После получения универсальной лицензии CNN сможет заключить договоры с кабельными и спутниковыми операторами и вернуться в российский эфир.

— Я приветствую тот факт, что CNN четко следуют достигнутым на переговорах договоренностям, и верю, что они будут также точны и безупречны в своей контентной политике, — заявил «Известиям» [глава Роскомнадзора Александр] Жаров.

Телеканал CNN вещал в России до конца 2014 года в составе лицензии спутникового оператора «НТВ Плюс». 31 декабря канал прекратил вещание — это было связано с поправками к российскому законодательству, в том числе с законом о запрете рекламы на кабельных каналах.
В январе представители CNN провели консультации с Роскомнадзором, 17 февраля канал подал заявку на регистрацию в качестве СМИ и получение универсальной лицензии. Регистрация была выдана уже 26 февраля.
