Букінгемський палац поскаржився в орган із контролю за ЗМІ на публікації в газеті Sun, де стверджується, що королева підтримує вихід Британії з Європейського союзу, повідомляє ВВС

Газета, посилаючись на анонімні джерела, стверджувала, що 2011 року між королевою і колишнім заступником прем'єр-міністра Ніком Клеггом, який підтримує членство країни в ЄС, стався невеликий конфлікт.

Як йдеться у публікації, джерело газети стало свідком того, як королева сказала Клеггу, що ЄС рухається у неправильному напрямку.

Також газета стверджує, що королева знову дала зрозуміти, що вона думає про Європу, під час спілкування з членами парламенту в Букінгемському палаці кілька років тому.

Видання із посиланням на джерело в парламенті зазначає, що Єлизавета II емоційно сказала: "Я не розумію Європу".

У відповідь на публікацію Букінгемський палац заявив:

"Королева залишається політично нейтральною, як це і було протягом 63 років. Ми ніколи не коментуємо вигадані заяви, отримані від анонімних джерел. Результат референдуму визначать британці".
