Експрезидент США Дональд Трамп погодився взяти участь у дебатах з чинним президентом Джо Байденом, які передвиборча команда Байдена запропонувала йому провести у червні та вересні. Про це повідомляє Politico.

Видання нагадує, що, починаючи з 1980-х років, організацією дебатів у США займалася спеціальна двопартійна комісія. Однак голова передвиборчої кампанії Байдена Джен О’Меллі Діллон у листі до Комісії з президентських дебатів пояснила, що вважає нинішній формат дебатів застарілим, а дати їх проведення — запізнілими. Вона також нагадала про досвід дебатів під час президентських виборів у 2020 році, коли модератор не зупиняв викрики Трампа, який перебивав Байдена.

Діллон запропонувала провести перші дебати в червні, «після того, як, імовірно, завершиться кримінальний судовий процес над Дональдом Трампом у Нью-Йорку, і після того, як президент Байден повернеться із зустрічі зі світовими лідерами на саміті G7». Другі дебати вона запропонувала провести у вересні.

У свою чергу передвиборчий штаб Трампа оголосив, що прийняв запрошення провести дебати з чинним президентом США на каналі CNN 27 червня та на каналі ABC 10 вересня.
