Видання наводить додаткові аргументи. Так, більшість колишніх співробітників Tesla, які працюють в Apple, - це інженери, що спеціалізуються на механіці, конвеєрному виробництві та робототехніці. У Купертіно перейшли близько 50 екс-співробітників Tesla.

Крім того, на початку лютого в околицях Сан-Франциско в США був помічений зареєстрований на Apple автомобіль з встановленими на його даху вимірювальним обладнанням і чотирма камерами.

ЗМІ припустили, що компанія може розробляти конкурента Google Street View або випробовувати систему автономного управління.

Чутки про плани Apple розширити сферу діяльності за рахунок випуску власних електромобілів з'являються неодноразово. Ще в 2007 році стало відомо, що Apple веде переговори з Volkswagen про спільне виробництво автомобіля під назвою iCar.

У жовтні 2012 року повідомлялося, що автомобіль був одним з останніх проектів одного із засновників і глави Apple Стіва Джобса, який він не встиг закінчити.

У лютому минулого року каліфорнійське видання The Chronicle повідомляло, що Apple проявляє інтерес до виробника спортивних електромобілів Tesla. Не відкидалося, що американський гігант комп'ютерної електроніки планує поглинання успішного виробника електромобілів. Пізніше глава Tesla Елон Маск підтвердив: він дійсно зустрічався з представниками компанії з Купертіно.
