Apple пошла в журнальный бизнес, приобретя дистрибьютора digital журналов, отмечает recode.net.

Компании купила сервис подписки Texture, который позволяет потреблять более 200 журналов. Сервис работает на Apple и Android-девайсах, и это не изменится после транзакции. Владельцем Texture является концерн крупных издателей, включая Conde Nast, Hearst, Meredith, News Corp, Rogers Communications, Time Inc, и частная инвестиционная фирма KKR, которая вложила $50 млн в компанию в 2015 году.

Сервис был запущен в 2012 году в качестве попытки крупных издателей владеть собственной версией Netflix или Hulu, и предоставить им контроль над digital дистрибуцией вместо того, чтобы их вытеснили Apple или Google. Со временем сервис приуменьшил концепцию журналов и начал продвигать идею месячной подписки, стоимостью в 10 долларов, которая предоставляет доступ к лучшим статьям исходя из интересов пользователей.
