Стаєр інвестував мільйони доларів у передвиборчу рекламу в Південній Кароліні. Втім у суботу на внутрішньопартійних виборах, за попередніми даними, його підтримали лише 11,3% виборців.

"Ми живемо в країні, де глибока економічна несправедливість, де багаті люди отримують вигоду за рахунок усіх інших. Я не входив у ці передвиборчі перегони, щоб просто отримати голоси. Я вів цю кампанію, щоб говорити про речі, які мене хвилювали найбільше", - повідомив Том Стаєр.
