Як відомо, відносини Німеччини та США загострились після витоку інформації про ймовірне багаторічне прослуховування американцями телефону канцлера Анґели Меркель. Була також інформація, що і Британія шпигує за Німеччиною.

Наразі cторони ведуть переговори про двосторонню угоду для припинення шпигунства.
