с демократией явно что-то не так

Демократия – это самая успешная политическая идея XX века, пишет журнал Economist в большом эссе на тему, сообщает Slon. Но сейчас, похоже, она попала в беду.

Иллюстрирует это утверждение вот такой график. Он показывает, что происходит с долей избирателей на парламентских выборах в пяти европейских странах, включая Россию, Евросоюзе в целом и США (тут, правда, на график попали президентские выборы). Тренд достаточно грустный: процент голосующих граждан падает в Европе, медленно снижается в Америке и ведет себя довольно странно в России.

Люди не верят своим правительствам, констатирует журнал, и все циничнее относятся к политике. Это было бы еще ничего, если бы они и хотели от властей немногого, но в итоге высокая зависимость граждан от правительств образует токсичную смесь с презрением первых по отношению к последним.

В качестве бонуса – график только про Россию: что важнее – демократия или сильная экономика?
