Український режисер Мстислав Чернов виголосив промову на сцені під час нагородження премією Американської кіноакадемії. Його фільм «20 днів у Маріуполі» отримав «Оскар» як «Найкращий повнометражний документальний фільм».

«Це перший Оскар в історії України. Це честь для мене. Але, мабуть, я буду першим режисером на цій сцені, який скаже: я хотів би ніколи не зробити цього фільму.

Я хотів би могти обміняти це [цю нагороду] на те, щоб Росія ніколи не атакувала Україну, ніколи не окуповувала наші міста. Я хотів би віддати все це визнання, щоб Росія ніколи не вбивала десятки тисяч моїх співгромадян українців. Я хотів би, щоб вони звільнили всіх полонених, всіх солдатів, які захищають нашу землю, всіх цивільних, які зараз перебувають в їхніх тюрмах.

Але я не можу змінити історію. Я не можу змінити минуле. Проте всі ми разом — ви, і деякі з найталановитіших людей світу з-поміж вас — ми можемо зробити так, щоби виправити історію, щоб правда перемогла. І щоб загиблих людей у Маріуполі, щоб тих, хто віддав свої життя, ніколи не забули. Тому що кіно формує спогади, а спогади формують історію.

Тому дякую вам усім! Дякую Україні! Слава Україні!», — сказав Чернов, отримуючи нагороду на сцені.
