Олімпійська чемпіонка з софтболу Міу Гото отримає нову медаль після того, як мер її рідного міста Нагоя (Японія) погриз її першу нагороду.

Поведінка 72-річного Такасі Кавамури розлютило громадськість, пише BBC. Політик не тільки зіпсував медаль спортсменки, але й порушив суворі ковід-обмеження на громадському заході.

Після того, як мер вибачився і сказав, що заплатить за заміну медалі, оргкомітет Олімпіади пообіцяв надати Гото нову нагороду.

Кавамура погриз медаль на церемонії, присвяченій перемозі Японії над США у жіночому софтболі. Користувачі соцмереж заявили, що його вчинок був антисанітарним і неввічливим. Після цього в мерію Нагої надійшло понад 7000 письмових та телефонних скарг.

"Я забув про свою посаду мера Нагої і вчинив вкрай недоречно", - визнав Кавамура.

Заміна медалі була узгоджена між Міжнародним олімпійським комітетом (МОК) і Міу Гото. МОК пообіцяв покрити всі витрати. "Ми просто хочемо офіційно підтвердити, що медалі Олімпійських ігор в Токіо неїстівні!" - пожартували в оргкомітеті.
