Nike объяснила, что в рекламе показывается, как люди «преодолевают повседневные трудности и конфликты, чтобы продвигать свое будущее через спорт». Видео набрало 16 млн просмотров в Twitter и 10 млн на YouTube. Количество лайков и дизлайков разделилось примерно поровну.
Реклама вызвала споры, поскольку Япония не привыкла открыто обсуждать такие чувствительные вопросы, как расизм, и некоторые задаются вопросом, должен ли был вмешиваться иностранный бренд.
Часть комментаторов считает, что Nike преувеличивает масштабы дискриминации, утверждая, что несправедливо выделять именно Японию. Другие пользователи пригрозили бойкотировать продукцию компании. Также они напомнили о японской теннисистке Наоми Осаку, которая подписала контракт с Nike.
При этом некоторые пользователи похвалили бренд за поднятие темы расизма, например, американский журналист японского происхождения Морли Робертсон. «Многие японцы не любят, когда кто-то со стороны говорит им изменить их образ жизни», — отметил он.
