Нинішній президент Шрі-Ланки Майтріпала Сірісена оголосив про відновлення смертної кари через повішення для представників наркобізнесу. Для пошуку людини, яка виконуватиме вирок, оголосили конкурс. На поточний момент відгукнулося вже 102 претенденти.
 
Зазначається, що в описі вакансії вказано, що робітник під шибеницею має бути "людиною високих моральних чеснот" і повинен мати "незламну силу духу". Також на роботу не візьмуть іноземців.
 
На Шрі-Ланці не було страт з 1976 року, коли смертні вироки замінили на довічне ув'язнення. Повідомляється, що останній з тих, хто обіймали цю посаду, звільнився у 2014 році. Йому не випало нікого стратити, утім, побачивши шибеницю, його здолав стрес - і він звільнився. Претендент на посаду, винайнятий у минулому році, взагалі не вийшов на роботу.
