Угорський прем’єр-міністр Віктор Орбан назвав своїх критиків у "Європейській народної партії" (ЄНП) "корисними ідіотами", сказавши, що вони служать інтересам лівих.

Так він говорив у інтерв’ю німецькому виданню Welt am Sonntag, виступаючи проти вимоги до його партії "Фідес" покинути лави ЄНП.

"Насправді атака, що надходить зліва, спрямована не на те, щоб послабити нас, а щоб послабити ЄНП. Якщо нас більше не буде, вони нападуть на італійців, потім на черзі - австрійці. Це називається тактика салямі", - сказав Орбан.

Минулого тижня лідери кількох християнсько-демократичних партій в Європі закликали виключити партію Орбана "Фідес" зі складу ЄНП. Головний кандидат на посаду президента Європейської комісії Манфред Вебер також зазначив, що цей варіант розглядається.

Орбан звинуватив своїх критиків в наївності: "Не всі це розуміють, але в політичній літературі таких називають, за словами Леніна, "корисними ідіотами". Хоча вони вірять в духовну боротьбу, вони служать владним інтересам інших, навіть наших опонентів", - сказав Віктор Орбан.

Угорський уряд в середині лютого розпочав рекламну кампанію, що звинувачує голову Єврокомісії Жана-Клода Юнкера в бажанні "заповнити Угорщину мігрантами" за вказівкою фінансиста і філантропа Джорджа Сороса. Після цього десять партій-членів Європейської народної партії, до якої належить і політсила прем'єр-міністра Угорщини Віктора Орбана "Фідес", публічно закликали до обговорення її статусу в межах ЄНП.

Представник уряду Угорщини Золтан Ковач на заклик Вебера припинити кампанію повідомив, що кампанія завершиться, як і планувалося, 15 березня.
