Сто восемнадцать журналистов погибли при выполнении служебных обязанностей в 2014 году, в текущем году представители СМИ по-прежнему подвергаются опасности, сообщил президент Международной федерации журналистов (International Federation of Journalists) Джим Бумела на Международной конференции СМИ,пишут РИА Новости .

"Сегодня речь идет не только о будущем журналистики, но и о физическом выживании журналистов в некоторых странах", — сказал он.

Бумела обратил внимание на то, что журналисты не только погибают при выполнении служебных обязанностей, но зачастую становятся целью нападающих.

"Каждый год Международная федерация журналистов публикует детали убийств журналистов. В прошлом году 118 журналистов погибли. Мы пишем о деталях, потому эти смерти — это не просто статистика, это наши друзья и коллеги, которые посвятили свою жизнь выполнению профессионального долга и заплатили за это непомерно высокую цену", — сказал Бумела.
