Той під час телефонної бесіди з керівником Європейської Ради Дональдом Туском прийняв його за главу Єврокомісії Юнкера. За словами самого Юнкера, складається враження, що вперше в історії президент Сполучених Штатів Америки не має зацікавлення в справах Європи.
Крім того, голова Єврокомісії зазначив, що Європу лякають гасла Дональда Трампа накшталт "Америка перш за все". Наступного місяця у Жан-Клода Юнкера запланований офіційний візит до американської столиці. Однак на тлі подібних настроїв єврокомісар сумнівається, що він зустрінеться з президентом США в Вашингтоні через те, що Трамп показує, що він має геть інші пріоритети у своїй політиці.
