Кандидат на посаду міністра оборони США та колишній ведучий телеканалу Fox News Піт Геґсет розповів, що заплатив 50 тисяч доларів за конфіденційність жінці, яка звинуватила його в сексуальних домаганнях у 2017 році. Про це він повідомив на слуханнях сенатському комітету з питань збройних сил, повідомляє CNN з посиланням на відповідні документи. 

У письмовому листуванні з Геґсетом сенаторка від штату Массачусетс Елізабет Воррен запитала його про звинувачення в сексуальному насильстві, яке він публічно заперечував.

Інцидент, за який Геґсету не пред'являли кримінальних звинувачень, стався 2017 року в Монтереї, штат Каліфорнія. Геґсет розповів, що уклав з обвинувачувачкою мирову угоду, яка включає пункт про конфіденційність.

Він пояснив, що зробив це, щоб запобігти її спробам заплямувати його кар'єру ведучого Fox News звинуваченнями, які, за його словами, були неправдивими.

Адвокат Геґсета Тім Парлаторе підтвердив CNN у листопаді, що його клієнт заплатив обвинувачувачці через багато років після інциденту. Але сума виплати досі не була відома громадськості, поки Геґсет не розкрив її перед комітетом.
