Капітан збірної Нікарагуа Хуан Баррера заявив, що не брав участі в голосуванні з визначення найкращого гравця світу за версією ФІФА і не віддавав свій голос за нападника "Барселони" Ліонеля Мессі.

В офіційних підсумках голосування, опублікованих ФІФА, зазначено, що Баррера поставив на перше місце Мессі, на друге - форварда "Ліверпуля" Садіо Мане, а на третє - нападника "Ювентуса" Кріштіану Роналду.

У своєму акаунті в Twitter Баррера написав: "Не голосував за нагороду The Best-2019. Інформація про мій голос - помилкова". У коментарі для libertaddigital.com Баррера додатково роз'яснив ситуацію: "Я не голосував за Мессі.

Я був дуже здивований, побачивши себе в списку капітанів збірних, які обрали Мессі, враховуючи те, що в цьому році я не голосував. ФІФА стверджує, що надіслала мені посилання для голосування на електронну пошту, але я його не отримував і проголосувати не міг.

Як я з'явився у списку капітанів, які проголосували за Мессі, якщо я не міг проголосувати?". Нагадаємо, Мессі у підсумку став володарем нагороди ФІФА The Best, випередивши Вірджіла ван Дейка і Кріштіану Роналду.
