«The Black Boot» вручатиметься за «видатний внесок у зменшення вуглецевого сліду футболу» і з’явилася після того, як було виявлено, що клуби Прем’єр-ліги літають на сотні домашніх виїзних матчів.

Дослідження, проведене у 2023 році, показало, що клуби Прем’єр-ліги здійснювали 80% своїх подорожей літаком. Середня тривалість цих перельотів становила 42 хвилини, а найкоротший — лише 27 хвилин.

Внутрішні рейси створюють 246 г вуглекислого газу на пасажира і спричиняють у сім разів більше викидів, ніж залізничні подорожі. Оскільки багато з цих подорожей можна легко замінити потягом або автобусом, кампанія шукає клуби, які б змінили свої звички у подорожах.

Протягом усього сезону найгірші порушники будуть названі як на акаунті Black Boot в соцмережі X, так і на вебсайті, а також будуть розіграні нагороди «Гравець сезону», «Гравець матчу» та «Команда місяця».
