Один из британских парламентариев принял свою чернокожую коллегу Дон Батлер (Dawn Butler) за уборщицу. Об этом она рассказала в эфире радиостанцииBBC 5 Radio, содержание разговора передает BBC News.

По словам женщины, она зашла в один из лифтов в здании парламента, который предназначен исключительно для законодателей. Увидевший ее коллега (имя мужчины не называется) взглянул на Батлер и сказал: «Знаете, этот лифт не для уборщиц».

Бывший мэр Лондона Кен Ливингстон назвал произошедшее безумием. «Она была избрана много лет назад и регулярно выступает», — сообщил он, комментируя инцидент.

Сама парламентарий сочла случившееся проявлением расизма. По словам Батлер, она регулярно сталкивается с подобным отношением на рабочем месте. В частности, в 2008 году один из бывших министров поинтересовался, имеет ли она право присутствовать в той части здания парламента, которая отведена для депутатов. На ее замечание, что она из их числа, он ответил: «Сегодня сюда уже пускают кого попало».

Дон Батлер — дочь иммигрантов с Ямайки. 46-летняя женщина была впервые избрана членом палаты общин в 2005 году, 10 лет спустя ей удалось переизбраться.
