У своїй першій промові після виборів пан Мугабе відкинув звинувачення опозиції у тому, що він вкрав вибори, і порадив своїм опонентам "повіситися", якщо їм не подобається результат.

Він додав, що не буде повторення політичної угоди з опозицією, яку уклали після виборів 2008 року.

Лідер опозиції Морган Цвангіраї бойкотує святкування Дня героїв. Окрім того він оскаржує результати виборів у суду.

За офіційними даними, на виборах 31 липня Роберт Мугабе набрав 61% голосів, а Морган Цвангіраї - 35%.
