З 20 квітня YouTube почне поступово відмовлятися від підтримки API v2 на користь більш сучасного API v3. У зв’язку з цим сервіс припинить роботу на декількох поколіннях IOS-пристроїв, Smart TV і Blu-Ray-плеєрів.

Головною «жертвою» нового стандарту стане додаток YouTube, вбудований у версії IOS з першої по шосту. Користувачі IOS 6 зможуть завантажити офіційну програму відеохостингу з App Store.  Ті, хто вирішив не оновлюватися з IOS 5 і більш ранніх версій системи, можливо, повністю втратять доступ до сервісу.

Ймовірно, перестане працювати YouTube і на Apple TV 2. Від підтримки програмного забезпечення від Apple компанія вже відмовилася. Те ж саме чекає  більшість телевізорів, Blu-Ray-плеєрів та інших видів техніки, випущених до 2013 року. Новіші пристрої і домашні ігрові приставки останніх двох поколінь будуть, як і раніше, відтворювати ролики сервісу.

Як зазначає портал The Next Web, в деяких випадках обмеження можна буде обійти, просто зайшовши на сайт YouTube у вбудованому браузері, однак цей варіант підійде не всім.

Щоб перевірити, чи підтримує пристрій YouTube після відмови від API v2, на ньому досить буде запустити будь-який ролик. Якщо воно застаріло, відео буде замінено на спеціальне трихвилинне попередження різними мовами.
