Редактори мережевої енциклопедії «Вікіпедія» проголосували за визнання британського таблоїда The Daily Mail «в основному недостовірним джерелом».
 

Надійність The Daily Mail обговорювалася редакторами енциклопедії ще з 2015 року, якщо не раніше. Тепер автори «Вікіпедії» постановили використовувати газету в якості джерела тільки в тих випадках, коли більше нема на кого послатися, пише Media Sapiens

«Прихильники The Daily Mail відзначають, що, незважаючи на наявність недостовірних даних в статтях газети, іноді журналістам видання вдається дістати правдиві відомості раніше інших», - наводить аргументи іншої сторони Mashable.

Рішення редакторів не означає, що The Daily Mail більше ніколи не можна буде використати як джерело, але авторів заохочують шукати інформацію в інших, більш надійних джерелах.

В переліку ненадійних джерел «Вікіпедії» вже перебувають таблоїди The Sun, Daily Mirror, та The Daily Express. Крім того, в нього було внесено Russia Today, Sputnik Newsіранське агентство Press TV тв китайське «Синьхуа».

Нагадаємо, «Вікіпедія» назвала найчастіше редаговані статті в 2016 році. Найбільше змін зазнали статті про знаменитостей, які пішли з життя в 2016 році: співака Девіда Боуї, боксера Мухаммеда Алі, астронавта Джона Гленна-молодшого та інших. В цілому матеріали категорії «Померли в 2016 році» зазнали 18,230 правок.
