Взагалі ж у звіті згадується понад 52 тисяч різних категорій, які Facebook використовує для класифікації користувачів. Сайт стверджує, що він отримує інформацію про своїх користувачів "з кількох різних джерел".

Дані додаються в профіль користувача і використовуються для налаштування реклами, яку показує соцмережа. Цікаво, що, згідно з правилами Facebook, єдиний спосіб видалити особисту інформацію із її баз даних — це особисто звернутися до третіх осіб, що надали її.

Згідно зі звітом, це займає багато часу, а часто і зовсім неможливо, оскільки Facebook часто змінює свої джерела інформації. Менеджер Facebook Стів Саттерфилд рекомендує звертатися безпосередньо до брокерів даних, зокрема Datalogix Oracle. Контракт з цією компанією був підписаний ще в 2012 році, саме з цього моменту, мабуть, і збираються дані.
