В Азербайджані почалось голосування на виборах до парламенту країни - Міллі Меджліс, які бойкотує опозиція.

Опозиція називає вибори несправедливими, а деякі провідні західні організації, які спостерігають за ходом голосування, відмовилися відправляти до країни своїх представників.

Основний опозиційний альянс Азербайджану - Національна рада демократичних сил, відмовився брати участь у парламентських виборах.

Низка інших партій, в тому числі Демократична партія Азербайджану, також вирішили бойкотувати ці вибори.

У вересні Бюро з демократичних інститутів і прав людини ОБСЄ оголосило, що не буде спостерігати за цими виборів "у зв'язку з обмеженнями, які наклала влада Азербайджану".

Разом з тим до країни прибула делегація спостерігачів Парламентської асамблеї Ради Європи для спостереження за виборами.

За право протягом п'яти років брати участь у роботі однопалатного національних зборів борються 676 кандидатів. Загальна кількість місць у Міллі Меджлісі обмежена 125 мандатами.

В Азербайджані сильна влада президента, і законодавці не грають вирішальної ролі.

На думку експертів, в парламенті знову будуть домінувати прихильники президента Ільхама Алієва.
